Drug Dealer Convicted of Second Degree Murder

On January 20, 2021, Shane Parker was convicted of second degree murder in McDowell County Superior Court. The incident occurred during the early morning hours of February 2, 2017. The victim, 22 year old Sydney Nanney, drove to Parker’s house, where he lived with his girlfriend, Natasha Brooks to buy some drugs, asking Parker for “the good stuff.” What Parker sold her was fentanyl. Ms. Nanney left, drove a short distance up the road, parked, and injected herself with the drug. Later that morning an individual on his way to work found Ms. Nanney in her car, dead from the fentanyl.

Parker was sentence to 11.9 to -15.3 years in prison. Natasha Brooks cooperated in the investigation and was convicted of aiding and abetting involuntary manslaughter. She was sentenced to 8 months in prison followed by a suspended sentence of 1.6 to 2.6 years.
